About us

From early parental intervention to stop neglect and abuse, through to reuniting children in orphanages and strengthening families, we work tirelessly to make the children of Sri Lanka's lives better, forever. We are a small grassroots organisation supporting one of the poorest and most socially deprived areas in the world, and our aim is to give a voice to forgotten children, so their voices can be heard.

The approach of Their Future Today is different from other charitable organisations. Its personal vision has been to simply identify areas of need, then actively and directly spend funds raised to achieve maximum impact to individuals and maintain longevity, consistency and sustainability in this support to keep families together. We work transparently and cost-effectively as a non-political, non-sectarian and not-for-profit organisation.

Our Mission

The mission of TFT is to help keep women and girls affected by gender-based violence safe, single mothers and babies together, and help end the institutionalisation and suffering of vulnerable children disadvantaged through poverty in Sri Lanka.

Our Vision

Our long-term vision is to see poverty reduced, communities empowered and lives transformed to end institutionalisation and introduce a foster care system so that every child can reclaim their human right to grow up in a family.

Since our HEARTS Alternative Family & Foster Care campaign launched at the Houses of Parliament in 2018:-

We have seen the worst humanitarian crisis in decades unfold in Sri Lanka, and many more children are facing unprecedented challenges. UNICEF reported more than 1 in 7 children were suffering malnutrition even before the Covid pandemic began which has also given rise to sharp increases in gender based violence, abandonment of children into harmful orphanages, organ trafficking and selling of children as slaves. Swathes of professionals are migrating and at the same time many of the future generation are dropping out of school through sickness and hunger.

There has never been a more critical time to help strengthen families, feed and educate young people and develop a national alternative family and foster care system to bring and keep children out of orphanages.

Despite the challenges over the past five years Their Future Today has provided emergency food relief and medication to hundreds of families to help keep them together, and influenced the first National Alternative Family Care Policy For Children in Sri Lanka, which has paved the way forward for kinship care and the development of the first national foster care system.

We work alongside local communities to provide solutions to empower, strengthen and uplift families to create a model of sustainable systematic change, to prevent child abandonment and keep families together.
