12 of the best from Bordeaux
Description
Bordeaux remains the centre of the fine wine world. The maritime climate on the 45th parallel provides for temperate winters and long, warm summers, perfect conditions for growing grapes suited to the production of classically-constructed, long-lasting wines.
Working with our friends at Berry Bros and Rudd we have selected six bottles each of two lovely representative wines, one from the left bank, one from the right bank, both excellent for drinking now or can be laid down for enjoying in the future.
2018 Amiral de Beychevelle, St Julien, Bordeaux. Six red bottles.
Decanter 93/100 Lovely intensity on the nose, aromatic and expressive. Smooth and high-toned on the palate, bright with a classy shine to the black fruits. Really love the aromatics on the profile here; you get that perfume and gloss with depth and soft tannins. Easy-drinking, easy to recommend.
2016 Vieux Château Saint André, Montagne-St Emilion, Bordeaux. Six red bottles.
Wonderfully rich yet refined, with dark cherry, leather, pepper and subtle oak interwoven with silky tannins. This complex wine outperforms for its price. From the winemaker at Petrus.
With thanks to Berry Bros and Rudd for supporting the Aviators Ball.
