Research shows that neglect is the most common form of child maltreatment, but it is difficult to define and address.

Neglect is often understood as a parental omission of care rather than an abusive act. These ‘omissions of care’ often happen over time and, because there are many risk factors associated with neglect, it’s challenging to know how best to support families and when to intervene.

There are a wide range of risk factors for neglect but the single biggest factor is poverty, so in the current economic climate, families are struggling more than ever to meet the needs of their children.

GCP2 can support practitioners to identify where a child’s needs aren’t being met, to ensure the right decisions are made at the right time to encourage positive changes for families.
